Phil Lopes

Phil Lopes is an Assistant Professor at Lusófona University, his focus lies at the crossroads of Digital Game AI, Affective Computing, Human Computer Interaction, Virtual Cinematic Productions and Game Design. He graduated with a PhD in Artificial Intelligence in Digital Games from the Institute of Digital Games of the University of Malta, in 2017 and was later a postdoctoral researcher at the Immersive Interaction Group of the EPFL (École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne), where he developed research, tools and games for the purpose of neuroscience and virtual reality research, and a postdoctoral researcher Computer Vision and Multimedia Lab of the University of Geneva, where his worked focused on several tools for emotion research in games for e-sports. He was General Chair @ the Foundations of Digital Games Conference in 2023; was awarded the 2024 IEEE Transactions in Games Best Paper Award; and has over 30 publications in the fields of affective computing, procedural content generation and game artificial intelligence.
