Diogo Rato is the co-founder of Testwaves, a company tackling Quality Assurance and Playtesting for game developers, and he is the Executive Director of the Portuguese Game Developer Association (APVP). In 2023, Diogo earned his Ph.D. from Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade de Lisboa, after defending his thesis, "Procedurally Generated Societies." He coordinated Técnico’s Game Laboratory from 2016 to 2020. In 2020, he founded the junior game studio GameDev Técnico and managed it for two years. His research focuses on AI, Social Cognition, Procedural Content Generation, Interactive Storytelling, and Intelligent Virtual Agents.
